I work in the space of trauma and grief and appreciate the ease of consumption of this book. When individuals are grieving, we don't always have the best focus and can be easily overwhelmed. I appreciate the vulnerability of being welcomed in to someone's else's story. Some parts felt unfinished and left me with great curiosity and desire for more details and context. The unfinished nature also felt really human and real. Grief does not show up in a nice organized structure and we don't always get all the answers we desire and that aligns with this quick read.
I just finished reading Journey Through Grief, that was penned by my niece Erin. Ironically, our sweet Labrador Retriever "Penny" unexpectedly passed away days before the release of the book. I really appreciate what Erin wrote, in particular, the importance of compassion for those of us who have experienced the loss of a pet. If I had a nickel for every time, someone said "sorry for your loss", I'd be a rich man! Those words seem so hollow, don't they? Frankly, I would prefer to hear "I'm so sorry" coupled with a silent, warm presence. When grieving the loss of a person or an animal, we need someone to listen, or say "how are feeling today," or just a warm hug. Thank you for what you wrote Erin, it is truly an expression of love for our companions.
steadfastness, vim, bouncebackability, endurance, moxie, ruggedness, vitality, and strength of character These are the words that I found and definitely feel are what you are left with after reading this book. I believe that people don't understand what is like to loose a pet and that there is such grief. It is just not a book about pets but grief and life in general. I felt very inspired after I read this book as to that everything turns out like its supposed to in life and you may not see that while you are going through it. I generally donate my books after reading but will keep this one as there is a good journaling area in the back that I know I will use at some point!!! Well done, good read.
Erin’s journey exemplifies how one can find light even in the darkest night. Her navigation through loss to find love and compassion towards herself and others is a powerful message. I am inspired by her dedication to healing herself and helping others through her experience. Journey Through Grief is not just a story of her navigating through grief, but a beautiful story of how she found life again through death.
I absolutely loved this book. Her personal journey of the loss of her special pets touched my very soul. I too lost my beloved pet Erin's journey made me feel like it was mine. I laughed, cried and sighed through this experience and love the photos and the journal area in the end. Well done a very special read. One person found this helpful
Such a great inspirational book!! For people who have lost a pet, this book really makes you feel validated for the grief you may have felt. Love how the author shared her personal experience while giving tips on how to get through the agony of losing a pet. Quick and easy read and there are journal prompts at the end!!
The loss of a pet is hard and even harder if you don't have the right support and tools. I imagine writing this was healing for the writer as well as those who read it during their time of loss.
This book is a raw, unfiltered look into what was a devastating experience for Erin. The way that she was available for all of us as readers in her storytelling is a whole new level of vulnerability. It is clearly a calling for her. I am so impressed by her ability to offer up her experiences in order to shine a light on what worked (and didn’t) through this horrible time. All while carrying on through it and maintaining hope and the promise of peace. She has provided some great tools to help you move through your grief. The workbook in the back has a bunch of great ideas. I can see this book being useful in lots of ways to help you cope with loss. So many of us have heard those words… “just a pet” to trivialize the loss of a family member is so wrong. Family includes our pets.
it is a testament to the human experience and the transformative power of love and loss. Erin Daly's narrative is a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is beauty to be found in the depths of our connections with those we hold dear. Throughout these chapters, Daly's bravery shines through, intertwining her personal journey with universal themes of love, loss, and resilience. Her ability to navigate the complexities of grief with such grace and vulnerability is a testament to her strength as both a writer and a person.
I recommend treating yourself and reading the author's words about grief. It goes beyond losing a furry baby or companion—it's relevant for anyone who has experienced loss. Through her gifted ability to tell a story, Erin establishes a clear framework for the grief she's experienced, why it was such a challenge, and how she overcame it. Unlike other books, Erin shares the framework and challenges her audience with thoughtful journal prompts after her story. It's a kind gesture, especially when you're trying to recover and learn from your type of grief. To quote an American author, public speaker, and academic, I admire, "As difficult as things can seem early on after the loss of a loved one, you can be happy again. In fact, a large body of research shows that over time, bereavement can even be an impetus for what psychologists call post-traumatic growth, including greater appreciation for life, improved relationships, recognition of new possibilities, personal strength, and spiritual development" – Arthur C. Brooks Erin has filled her loss with Post-Traumatic growth and rejuvenated her outlook, personal strength, and spiritual development.
Very good read. Wonderfully written story. So sad and incredibly touching to anyone who’s lost a furry companion or a companion with disabilities. Highly recommend

A touching tribute to her dogs and a comforting read for anyone mourning a pet."
